Obituary:

Delmer N. Klanderud, 92, of Vermillion, SD, passed away, Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center, Vermillion.

Delmer was born March 18, 1918 in Wynot, Nebr., to Arthur and May (Taylor) Klanderud. He was raised in Flandreau, SD and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

From 1942 to 1946, he served in the 3rd Army, 26th Division in France, Luxemburg, and Germany. After graduating from barber college in Oakland, CA. Delmer worked as a barber for 37 years, including 10 years at Shattuck School (boys' military school) in Faribault, MN, and 15 years in Mesa, AZ. He retired in 1988. He sang with the Leisure World barber shop chorus in Mesa, AZ, and was a member of the V.F.W. Delmer was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, SD.

Delmer is survived by his wife, Norma Ofstehage, a daughter, Patricia (James) Hall and grandchildren, Richard, Patricia, and Samantha of Chandler, AZ, his sister, Ruby (Marvin) Hanson of Dell Rapids, SD, and cousins in Mapleton, IA, and Hartington, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Beatrice.

Abiding his wishes, he donated his body to the University of South Dakota Medical School in Vermillion.


Service:

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home, 402 E. Main St., Vermillion. with Rev. Mary Feistner officiating.
